Professor Karl Williams is the Director for the Centre for Waste and Resource Management at the University of Central Lancashire and he has seen his career evolve from heavy industry into environmental solutions for waste and resource management. He has extensive experience of a range of technologies associated with resource recovery and carbon reduction.
He has been a Charted Engineer for over 25 years and has worked with different business sectors in the development of bespoke solutions for a range of materials. His research interests include life cycle assessment of products and processes; environmental impacts of technology; barriers to low carbon adoption as well as social attitudes to resource management. He is the principle lead for two low carbon projects: Making Carbon Work (MaCaW) Lancashire and Eco-I NW which are both ERDF projects and an Interreg project investigating the use of waste shells to reduce the impact of permeable surfaces.
